An executive airport is a marketing term used to describe a category of airport which typically provides no scheduled airline passenger service, serving instead to offload small aircraft traffic from a major hub airport in the same region.
These are essentially large general aviation airports in metropolitan areas; regulators classify them as relief airports or reliever airports. The "executive airport" branding is adopted to differentiate the facility from another, larger airport in the same city and market the secondary airport to owners of private aircraft such as business jets.
In the US, relief airports account for 10% of all facilities funded through the federal Airport Improvement Program (AIP).
